THE COURSE:

The 5K and 10K routes for 2017 will be different from the 2016 courses due to imminent construction on and along Western Skies Drive from Damante Ranch High School to Brown Elementary School. The races still will start at the high school and they will finish on the track there. But the courses will use the well maintained paved pedestrian pathways in and around the neighborhoods to the north of the high school.

We can assure you that you will like the race routes. They will take you on a scenic tour of the area with plenty of views of the mountains on the west and east side of the Truckee Meadowsas well as the extensive open space with wetlands and a large pond.

5K Course Description

The 5K route is an out and back course. It starts in the parking lot right outside of the Damonte Ranch High School stadium. It heads west across the school grounds and reaches Western Skies Drive. Make a right turn and head to Rio Wrangler Parkway. Cross the road there and access the paved pedestrian trail. Continue along that trail to the junction where you reach the network of paved pedestrian trails that circle the extensive open space with wetlands and a large pond. You will turn left at the junction and run 1317 meters, staying on the right side of the path, to the 5K turnaround point. You then will make a U-turn and re-trace your steps, staying on the right side of the paths, all the way back to the high school. At the end we will direct you onto the track and you will finish with a 3/4 lap around the track stopping in front of the main bleacher section.

10K Course Description

The 10K route has many similarities to the 5K course. You will turn left at the junction just like the 5K participants and run on the right side of the path. You will pass by the 5K turnaround, continuing straight. You will pass by the 10K turnaround this time, continuing straight. The 10K runners will make a complete circle in a clockwise direction around the large open area. A complete circle is 4596 meters, almost a full 5K or 3.1 miles. After making that complete circle, the 10K runners will begin a second lap around the large open area and run another 1519 meters to the 10K turnaround point. You will then make a u-turn and, staying on the right side of the path, head back directly to the high school. Like with the 5K, at the end we will direct you onto the track and you will finish with a 3/4 lap around the track.

We will mark the 5K and 10K routes very well so you do not get lost. There will be signs and chalk arrows in addition to volunteers at the key locations to keep you on track. We also will mark the miles so you know how far you have gone and what you have left to complete.
