Announcement to cancel 2021 Reno Running Fest

We have decided to cancel the 2021 Reno Running Fest scheduled for September 11-12, 2021. We are sorry to be delivering this news to you.

For those of you who have already registered, we will be refunding the full amount that you paid (entry fee, shirt purchase and charitable donation if applicable). We will be emailing each one of you. If you do not receive an email from us, please contact Eric at eric@race178.com.

Despite opening registration on June 1, we have not had enough registrations nor are they tracking to be at the level necessary to support this event. We thought that there might be pent up demand and there would be a significant number of early registrations. That has not proven to be the case.

While we understand that more will sign up closer to the event, we are not confident that there will be enough registrations due to a number of factors that are outside of our control. This year in particular there will be an overload of more popular running events and other fun things to do in September and October, some of which have been rescheduled due to the COVID pandemic. Wildfires and poor air quality could very likely be a problem. The latest developments of the pandemic might also adversely impact the event. This combination of factors does not bode well for the Reno Running Fest on September 11-12.

Due to the pandemic, we have not had a normal year this year in 2021 or last year in 2020. Hence we are not in our usual strong financial position to absorb the shortcomings of the smaller and less popular Journal Jog and Reno Mile.

What is coming up next for Race178 and how can you support us? If you have not yet registered for the 2022 RTO, sign up your team by end of November this year. Also, when we open registration for the 2022 Leprechaun Race set for next March, please register in the first 30 days. In the meantime sign up for one of the running tours that we are offering (when the Reno-Tahoe region is not full of wildfire smoke of course.)

Please support other local races while you are waiting for our next races. It is not easy for small local races to be a financial success. If you want to have local races in your community and you know you are going to participate in them, we encourage you to register early and get others to do the same.

We appreciate your support of Race178. We wish you the best.
